To hold a licence to run a pub you must attend a training course on the relevant licensing law for where your chosen pub is located. There are two licening Acts one for England and Wales and one for Scotland.

  • Licensing Act 2003 for England & Wales - Award for Personal Licence Holders
  • Licensing Act 2005 for Scotland

The Award for Personal Licence Holders (formerly known as the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders) is a mandatory qualification for those wishing to apply for a personal licence to sell or supply alcohol in England and Wales. The Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) Level 5 is a is a mandatory qualification for those wishing to apply for a personal licence to sell or supply alcohol in Scotland.
